Next Time we have a game
I just had an inspiration!
The next game we set up could be everyone gets one setting nobody else can argue with. Maybe we get to pick by random order or maybe by finish in the prior game. For example, Baer would pick Tim Host, Mule SOSS, PetRock Explore Map, Steel Rat Rare minerals, and so on. It could be interesting.
I do like the idea of the prior game's winners getting something tangible, like first choices on something. Just a thought...

yep - but for another reason: let's give the first choice(s) by reverse ranking order of the completed game. Last one starts and so on.
Seems quite fair to me. t.e.o.

Deckroid's undies?
TEO,
Reverse order for Deckroid's undies?
Or reverse order for next game choices?

No, seriously: The idea of setting up the game features by voting each one unvetoed from the other players sounds really interesting. (Other than undies )
Giving each player one vote for one (or none) feature seems fair; but the sequence of doing this is elementary (as there might be contradictionaries wishes, or double selections)
If the schedule runs like: "first comes, first serves", the order matters heavily.
And to give *not* the winner a bonus (don't ask me why - that's another thread), I propose to use the inverse ranking of the last finished game.
That's my 5c - t.e.o. aka Gert

Re: Next Time we have a game
I can see the inverse order might be an attempt to "level" the playing field. But, it also gives no incentive to finishing the previous game as well as possible.
I think that American Football, where your finish determines the selection order of new players in the following year, is a good example. Once a team does badly enough that reaching the playoffs is not possible, it becomes in their best interests to finish as poorly as possible. Especially if there is a very good player about to become available. They don't admit to it of course, but the incentive to win those late season games becomes less important for some teams.
In Planets, there are certainly some players that will usually do better no matter what the circumstances and obstacles. But, in any small group of players where the skill level is somewhat close to the same, I think the outcome may depend as much on luck (both good and bad). Things like who your neighbors are, who is willing and available to ally with, what the mineral and native distribution is, and so on. In this case it is not necessary or even desirable to level the field. Just shake the dice and roll them again.
But, in whatever order, I think this might be a fun way to set up a game. It would certainly cut down on a lot of arguments.

good arguments
Salut Mule,
yes, you've found some good points against 'reverse order'!
Trying always to do best, I couldn't imagine to play worse - just to get an advantage next game.
And I won't level the field, but giving an early choice as a sop to someone's pride who has come off badly.
Regardless of the order - let's keep the idea in mind :-)

Re: Next Time we have a game
As far as something tangible goes, I was thinking more along the lines of Petrock's fresh, warm and still bloody spleen. Shouldn't take more than 45 seconds to locate and produce said spleen.
As far as the Winner gets to choose the next game settings, I like it, but what about race choice?
I really like this game, and playing as the different races is interesting, but I also enjoy playing as the Rebels. When playing as a race that I may not have had a lot of experience, I know that I am not going to finish in the top 3 unless by remote chance.
I think it would be interesting to have the Winner choose next game settings, then #2 chooses then #3, etc etc, but that the inverse order, #12, gets first dibbs at race selection.
Just my own perverse idea.

voting order
ok... in which order?
Say at the same time - or first choosing the features and then in a second step the procedure to get a race?
As the remaining players would like to know what's chosen and what's free to use, the voting must go on quickly, one by one. Don't it?

No Rush!
We were talking about the "next" game. So there should be no rush.
This restart is only adding items 1,2, & 3 to our already agreed game conditions. Oh, and going back to PBP builds. And, better resources...
1. Wandering Tribes start,
2. Explore Map, with Unknown Square Map,
3. Tim Host
4. Normal to Rich resources,
5. StarBase Plus,
6. ONE ally,
7. Wrap/Sphere,
8. PBP ship build queue.
I think I got it all right this time.

Re: Next Time we have a game
Salut,
no rush - shurely (the term 'go quickly' may be false, expressing my poor english )
What I tried to say is: if we want to know about the previous steps (i.e. which items are already assigned), there must be 24 mass mails (one after each vote, feature and race). This could take some time, if there're players delaying the procedure. That's all - only a question of performance.
No need to start it yet.
