Phost Issues Empty Phost Issues

Post  Game Master Mon May 18, 2009 9:20 pm

I understand Baer's feelings about Phost. When you are used to doing things a certain way, why should you have to change? It's not something I really like either. But, I think it's worth it this time.

It's more fun playing a game with and against a group of players, such as ours, that we have gotten to know over the years. And I don't want to knock Ricki, but he has become too busy to offer special games, even as simple as a team game or just a basic game open to experienced players. And the regular ones he now offers follow a specific pattern that is geared to a certain preference of play.

That's why I had to go find a new place to play. Except for the Phost thing, Planetsserver was the best one I could find. And most of the time you don't even notice the difference. As far as SB+ maybe not being added yet, That is on the person (host) that launched the game and could have happened with Tim Host too. Hopefully, we'll get it fixed if it isn't working right.

There are some differences and I'll help anyone that I can over the bumps. There really aren't that many.

1. Scoring is by default PT Score, but we can choose anything we like.

2. You need to view battles differently, but I sent out a viewer that you can put in any folder and has never caused me any problems.

3. Setting allies is different. I'm in another game where I just set up an alliance with the Rebels. In the game messages, I sent the following message to myself.
_________
allies add 10
allies config 10 ~s ~p ~m ~c ~v
_________
The Rebel player accepted the alliance by sending to himself:
allies add 4
allies config 4 ~s ~p ~m ~c ~v
_________
Of course you can set different levels of alliance. That's what all the code is about. But, if you want to keep it simple, just make a full alliance as shown.

That's all I can really think of right now. If something else comes up, just let me know and I'll fill in the blanks as well as I can.

Please note I corrected an error in my ally code message [above].
You send the Phost command to yourself. Not to the proposed ally.
Sorry about that! Embarassed

Second correction:
Phost understand 10 as Rebel, not a.

Phost Issues Empty PHost differences

Post  the elder one Tue May 19, 2009 3:47 pm

Salut

I don't worry about the type of hosting - it's just to know what's in use.

Via Donovan I found the site www.phost.de (the developers) and going for the docs you may read about the differences between PHost and Host. Here's the link:

http://www.phost.de/dox/diffs.htm

I like it; the alliance management ist described there as well as the procedere of "command lines" (I've learned something new; and I'm going to try some of the features. Checking 'Pets on the rocks'? Or 'rocks on the pets'? What a choice... Evil or Very Mad )

Mule's right: there're not too many differences (I started the game normally - grabbing all I can get Embarassed - and didn't feel anything new or wrong)

Try it, t.e.o.

I just noticed another error I made in the ally code [above}. I forgot to show number of ally in config line. I corrected it there and post it here as well:

allies add 10
allies config 10 ~s ~p ~m ~c ~v

Seems I can't stop tripping my own feet. Embarassed
